Background:
Only once a year cameras are allowed inside our facility for an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of the processing, sorting and distribution activities during the Postal Service’s busiest time of the year.
The Postal Service expects to process and deliver nearly 13 billion total pieces of mail, including nearly 800 million packages, between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Day. USPS’ busiest mailing, shipping and delivery week will be December 16-22, during which approximately 2.5 billion pieces of mail, including greeting cards and nearly 200 million packages, are expected to be processed and delivered, with an average of 28 million packages per day. The Postal Service expanded Sunday delivery, beginning November 24, to locations with high package volumes, and anticipates delivering more than 8 million packages each Sunday in December.
The Postal Service receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations.
