Background:
On Sunday, June 20, USPS Texas 1 District Manager Scott Hooper will join other elected officials and Murphy family representatives at the dedication of the Greenville, TX, Post Office in honor of Audie L. Murphy. This dedication will take place on what would have been Murphy’s 96th birthday and pays tribute to the memory and courage of U.S. Army 2nd Lieutenant Audie L. Murphy, the most decorated American soldier in World War II.
On Feb. 27, 2020, Rep. John Ratcliffe (R-TX-4) introduced H.R. 5988, a bill to designate the facility of the United States Postal Service, located at 2600 Wesley Street in Greenville, TX, as the Audie L. Murphy Post Office Building. Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) co-sponsored a similar bill, S. 3461, in the Senate. The 116th U.S. Congress approved both measures, which became Public Law 116–265, on Dec. 30, 2020.
