DALLAS — As the U.S. Postal Service prepares for the 2021 holiday peak season, CEO and Postmaster General Louis DeJoy met and heard from USPS employees and stakeholders here this week as he promoted local hiring efforts and investments that are key to the seasonal preparations for the agency’s busiest period for mail and package deliveries.

DeJoy’s Dallas visit included an address to the National Association of Postal Supervisors and followed recent tours of facilities this summer in Chicago; New Castle, Delaware; New Orleans; Norman, Oklahoma; and Philadelphia. He also recently visited Ohio, where in Sandusky he spoke before a national gathering of postmasters and later met with employees at facilities in Akron and Cleveland.

“I am energized by the conversations I have been having across the country with our great Postal Service employees, customers and stakeholders who care deeply about one of America’s most valued institutions,” DeJoy said. “With new investments and new hires, our leadership is positioning the Postal Service to deliver a successful holiday season for our local communities and the nation.”

DeJoy’s Dallas tour included a visit to the North Texas Processing and Distribution Center (P&DC) and two local Post Offices. At the North Texas P&DC, he met with operations employees to hear about the significant performance improvements resulting from the year-ago installation of a state-of-the-art small-parcel sorting system, the kind now being installed at more than 100 postal facilities this year as part of an network-wide investment being driven by Delivering for America, the Postal Service’s 10-year plan for achieving financial sustainability and service excellence. The deployment of new package sorters will accommodate the higher volumes and increased customer demand for package deliveries that will come with the 2021 holiday season.

Since April, the Postal Service has installed 48 of 112 new package sorting machines, reflecting $40 billion of planned infrastructure investments during the next decade. Recent processing equipment installations occurred in Anchorage (AK), Cincinnati (OH), Denver (CO), Eagan (MN), Huntsville (AL), Houston (TX), Memphis (TN), Mid-Carolina (NC), Philadelphia (PA), Seattle (WA), Shreveport (LA), Spokane (WA), St. Louis (MO), Teterboro (NJ), Toledo (OH) and Traverse City (MI).

“Across our network, facilities and equipment have been added at a magnitude not endeavored here in a long time and at a pace that rivals any high-performing commercial enterprise,” the Postmaster General said. “It is an exciting time to be a part of the United States Postal Service.”

DeJoy also greeted area job seekers at a career fair hosted by USPS. Nearly 550 job seekers attended USPS hiring fairs in the Dallas Fort Worth area in the past week – including more than 200 at the North TX P&DC event the Postmaster General attended. This year, the Postal Service plans to hire more than 40,000 seasonal employees for the 2021 holiday peak season. In Texas, the Postal Service is looking to hire more than 4,800 seasonal employees.

In support of the hiring drive, the Postal Service is hosting free job fairs in select cities across the country where attendees can immediately apply for seasonal, part-time and full-time jobs. Registration, social distancing and face masks are required to attend a USPS Job Fair. Register or apply at usps.com/careers.
