Background:

H.R. 7810, introduced on Jul 29, 2020, was enacted and signed by the President on January 5, 2021.  The measure names the Pearland Main Post Office in honor of Mayor Emeritus Tom Reid, who served the City of Pearland as a council member, then as Mayor, for nearly 40 years. In 2020, Reid announced he would not seek re-election, ending his long tenure as Mayor.

Born in Houston, Mayor Emeritus Reid acquired his conservative philosophy growing up in the farming and ranching country of Central Texas. He moved with his family to Pearland in 1965, where both his son and daughter graduated from local schools. Mayor Reid became active in the Pearland community and served as Scout Troop Committee Chairman, City Planning Commissioner, City Councilman, Chairman of the Pearland Library Board, and Chairman of Brazoria Drainage District #4.

Mayor Reid retired in November 2020 and was awarded the Mayor Emeritus position. His professional career includes highlights such as scientific writing, underwater defense research for the Navy Department, and serving as a Junior Design Engineer with WKM Valve Manufacturing Company.
