New Technology Boosts Processing Capacity by 500%, Capable of Processing 1.5 million Packages per Day
DALLAS — The U.S. Postal Service has introduced a new, advanced package sorting machine at its Dallas Regional Transfer Hub (RTH). This technological upgrade is part of a 10-year network transformation and modernization strategy that involves significant local investments at USPS facilities and local communities across the nation. As part of this investment, the Dallas Regional Transfer Hub (RTH) has been equipped with a new multi induct matrix sorter (MIMS).
The state-of-the-art MIMS automated package sorting system is capable of processing up to 70,000 packages an hour and 1.5 million each day. This advancement represents a 500% increase in capacity and a 22% increase in efficiency — and demonstrates the commitment of USPS to faster, more reliable delivery for residents and businesses in the region.
“Implementing the latest, most advanced package sorting technology available will enhance operational efficiency, improve service performance and drive better, more competitive delivery service,” said Billy Mayes, USPS executive plant manager. “The investments we’ve made here in Dallas represent more than just an upgrade; they represent a commitment to our employees, our customers and the future of the Postal Service”
The new equipment was shown to community members and the news media on September 30, where the Postal Service’s local and regional leadership and subject matter experts unveiled the machine, spoke about the technology and its impact, and led a tour and demonstration of the new capabilities.
As the nation’s end-to-end carrier of choice, USPS has committed nearly $19.8 billion to revitalize its processing, transportation and delivery networks to date.
Upgrades like the new MIMS in Dallas are part of more than $40 billion in strategic investments that are enhancing efficiency and providing speedier, more dependable service for Americans everywhere. Upgrades across Texas and the nation continue to put the Postal Service on a positive trajectory and create a high performing, financially stable organization capable of providing the American public with world-class service for decades to come.
