On January 4, 2025, President Biden signed into law H.R. 10065 (P.L.118-270) designating the facility located at 802 North Tancahua Street in Corpus Christi, Texas, as the “Captain Robert E. "Bob" Batterson Post Office.” This legislation was introduced in the U.S. House by Representative Michael Cloud (TX-27).

Captain Batterson, a U.S. Navy veteran who enlisted in 1939, dedicated 35 years of service to his nation. He was present at Pearl Harbor during the attack on December 7, 1941, and later earned his wings at Naval Air Station Corpus Christi, ultimately becoming a Navy Aviator flying F6F Hellcats in World War II. After the war, he continued his service in the Navy’s Supply Corps until retiring in 1974. In his retirement, Capt. Batterson was an active member of the Coastal Bend community, volunteering for 26 years at the U.S.S. Lexington Museum in Corpus Christi. He became a beloved figure at the Pearl Harbor exhibit, where he shared his experiences and preserved the history of fellow servicemembers. Capt. Batterson passed away in 2023 at the age of 102, leaving a legacy of dedication to his country and community.
