MONROE, UT — As part of the United States Postal Service's "For the Long Haul" initiative, the Monroe Post Office is proud to celebrate Monroe Rural Carrier RaeLee Curtis, a dedicated letter carrier who has faithfully served the Little Green Valley for more than 30 years.

"For the Long Haul" is an initiative designed to honor the remarkable dedication of long-serving letter carriers, like RaeLee, who have become integral parts of their communities. Since beginning her postal career in 1993, she has committed herself to providing reliable and friendly service throughout the valley which includes working on routes in Monroe, Joseph, Sevier, and Central Valley.

“I love the service I give to my community,” she said. “It means a lot to know people trust and respect me to deliver for them.”

Curtis is an active part of her community beyond delivering mail and packages. She coaches youth basketball and softball and has served as a youth council advisor for many years. She is part of the civic league, Fireman’s Auxiliary, and is active with callings in her church. She also received a Monroe City Volunteer of the Year award.

In her 31 years as a rural carrier, she has seen a lot of progress in the Postal Service; automation of mail, tracking and visibility through online resources such as USPS.com and Informed Delivery, and an increase of parcels due to online shopping since the pandemic. “The online shopping has created hundreds of packages that I deliver every day,” she said. “It’s not just Grandma’s birthday presents anymore.”

Curtis has received the National Safety Council’s prestigious Million Mile Award, which is provided to USPS employees for driving one million miles or for 30 years without a preventable accident. Over that time, she has worked with six postmasters and enjoys the camaraderie and support with her team, making it “…the BEST office in the whole postal system.”

“RaeLee's genuine love for her job is evident in the joy she brings to her work and the smiles she inspires in others. We are incredibly fortunate to have someone of her caliber on our team, and I am deeply appreciative of her exceptional contributions,” said Monroe Postmaster Harold Hafner. “You truly exemplify the best of us.”

Some of her best memories include interacting with customers on her route. When turning 50, customers arranged to put black balloons on 50 mailboxes to celebrate this milestone event to her delight. She has enjoyed the variety of customers she has over the years. Watching kids grow up and share their birthdays, visiting with elderly customers waiting for mail, exchanging stories and fresh garden vegetables, and the friendly wave and hello from a porch inspire her every day.  She has no immediate plans to retire and will continue providing the best mail delivery she can as an integral part of the Little Green Valley community.

“Thank you to all the customers I’ve had over the years! I’ve had the best people on my route. It makes a huge difference to have great people and a great community working together to make great things happen,” she said. “That’s what I see every day as I drive and deliver to citizens of Monroe. You make me love what I do!”

The United States Postal Service has been an essential part of American life since its inception in 1775. Committed to providing reliable, affordable mail service to every address in the country, USPS plays a crucial role in maintaining communication and commerce across the nation.
