Background:

The Palmyra Post Office will be dedicated as the U.S. Navy Seaman Dakota Kyle Rigsby Post Office in a formal ceremony on March 23, 2019. Rigsby died on the USS Fitzgerald on June 17, 2017, after the ship collided with a merchant vessel off the coast of Japan. Rigsby was a native of Palmyra.

On July 11, 2017, Rep. Thomas Garrett introduced a bill (H.R. 3183) to dedicate the Palmyra Post Office in honor of Rigsby. The bill was signed into Public Law 115-209 by the president on July 24, 2018.

The ceremony is free and open to the public.
