Operation Santa, child writing a letter to Santa

MERRIFIELD, VA — The holidays are here, and the Merrifield, VA, Post Office is ready to help children write their letters to Santa as part of the Operation Santa program.

This year, the USPS Operation Santa® program is 107 years old. The program was established by the Postal Service to help families and children have a magical holiday when they otherwise might not. This year brings some exciting changes, a new website, and an expansion of last year’s digital program.

On Saturday, Nov. 30, 2019, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., the Merrifield, VA, Post Office, 8409 Lee Highway, Merrifield, VA, 22081, will welcome children to come in, write Santa a letter — complete with a stamp and return address — and mail it to his new official address:

Santa Claus
123 Elf Road
North Pole
88888

The letters — minus any personal information — will be posted at USPSOperationSanta.com, our new web address for letter adoption. Customers nationwide are searching now for letters to Santa to adopt online at the website. Children’s personal information remains anonymous.

Can’t make the event? Sending a letter to Santa is easy. All the information you could possibly need to write a letter, address an envelope, put on a stamp, and send it on its way can be found at USPSOperationSanta.com/GetInvolved.

USPS Operation Santa History

The Postal Service began receiving letters to Santa Claus more than 100 years ago; however, it was in 1912 when Postmaster General Frank Hitchcock authorized local postmasters to allow postal employees and citizens to respond to the letters — this became known as Operation Santa.
Additional Operation Santa history, news and information, including all domestic, international and military mailing and shipping deadlines, can be found at https://about.usps.com/holidaynews/

The Postal Service receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations.
