USPS Employees Honored for Exceptional Safety Record

Three Hampton Roads-based employees earn Million Mile Award

NORFOLK, VA — Charles Patterson, David Nelson, Richard Sease were among 23 Postal Service employees recognized during a ceremony for earning the National Safety Council’s Million Mile Award. The award is given to postal drivers who have driven one million miles or 30 years without any preventable incidents.

Patterson, Nelson and Sease are Newport News residents and based at the Norfolk Local Processing Center and part of the Atlantic Region Logistics’ South Atlantic Division.

Patterson is a motor vehicle operator (MVO) who has 40 years of service. Sease also has 40 years of service and is a tractor trailer operator (TTO). Nelson is a TTO with 33 years of service.

To commemorate their milestone, the Hampton Roads trio was among 11 MVOs and 12 TTOs who received an embroidered jacket and crystal award — with their family members also in attendance at the William Bolger Center in Potomac, MD.

“Safety is our top priority; nothing is more important,” said Shelaine Grese, Atlantic Region Logistics senior director. “What you achieved is amazing and we’re proud of you.”

USPS has more than 11,000 uniformed MVOs and TTOs and noncommercially licensed operators. Their miles in 2022 totaled driving more than 24.5 million trips in more than 25,000 box trucks and tractor-trailers daily.

The Postal Service has openings for MVOs, TTOs and a variety of other positions. Candidates can learn more about positions requirements, search openings and apply for positions www.usps.com/careers.
