Post Office Asks to Please Clear Snow and Ice

VIRGINIA - With snow accumulations covering the region the Postal Service is asking homes and businesses to clear snow and ice from sidewalks, stairs, and mailboxes both on the house and curbside. Many communities have cluster boxes and keeping them clear of snow and ice not only provide safe delivery for our letter carriers, and it also ensures safe retrieval of mail for residents.

Delivery service may be delayed or curtailed whenever streets or walkways present hazardous conditions for letter carriers or when snow is plowed against mailboxes.

One of the goals of Delivering for America, the Postal Service’s 10-year plan for achieving financial sustainability and service excellence, is the commitment to safety as a core value throughout the organization for its employees.
