Renton Highlands Post Office To Be Dedicated in Honor of Jimi Hendrix

U.S. postal Service Pays Tribute to Famed Rock Musician on Friday, April 19

RENTON, WA – The U.S. Postal Service will pay tribute to rock musician Jimi Hendrix by dedicating the Renton Highlands Post Office in his honor during a ceremony at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 19, in front of the post office, 4301 NE 4th St., Renton WA.

A plaque will be will be set at the Renton Highlands Post Office, placing Hendrix’s name on the building.  The Renton Highlands Post Office will retain its name.

U.S. Ninth District (WA) Congressman Adam Smith sponsored legislation to authorize the dedication.

Jimi Hendrix, who was born in Renton, is regarded as one of the most influential electric guitarists in the history of popular music and one of the most celebrated rock musicians of the 20th century.’

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame described Hendrix as ’‘arguably the greatest instrumentalist in the history of rock music.

This is the second time the U.S. Postal Service has honored Jimi Hendrix.  In March 2014 the Postal Service dedicated a First-Class commemorative Forever stamp to recognize Hendrix.

This is the fourth post office in Washington State to be dedicated in the name of a local citizen.
