Meet Deanann Jones, Benton City’s Newest Postmaster

Manages USPS Services for Benton City Community

Deanann Jones, Benton City’s Postmaster

Benton City, WA — Deanann Jones has been with the Postal Service for 10 years. In that time, she has held a variety of jobs, but her newest position as Benton City Postmaster really allows her to connect with the community.

Jones joined the Postal Service in 2013 in a Postmaster relief position in Moore, MT. Throughout her career she has served in various cities throughout Oregon and Washington as an officer in charge, part time flexible employee, postal support employee, and substitute supervisor. She says the most rewarding position of her career so far has been as the officer in charge in Winlock and Onalaska, WA.

“When I got to OIC Winlock and Onalaska, by far my most rewarding offices. I learned something every day and in turn got to teach others. I got to experience a functioning postal family and it was wonderful. Such a great group of people in those offices.”

As Postmaster, she oversees 13 employees, five rural routes, and the retail office which also handles passport renewals.

Jones is doing her part to support the Postal Service’s 10-year “Delivering for America” plan by, “ensuring our office gets all mail delivered on the day it is received in a timely fashion. By doing this we are ensuring our customers get the best possible service we can give.”

Prior to joining the Postal Service, Jones earned a culinary degree from Western Culinary Institute in Portland, OR and put her expertise to work as a chef in a variety of locations such as a hospital, local café, retirement facility, and even thought about buying a café of her own! She also worked as a librarian and spent time as a stay-at-home mom. But she ultimately decided to join the Postal Service, “I chose the post office because it would work well with my family needs. Little did I know it would become my second family. I wouldn’t change it for anything.”

Jones is engaged with two daughters and two dogs. Her parents, brother and sister-in-law live in western Washington and Oregon respectively. In her spare time she enjoys reading, cross stitch, antique hunting, and sourdough baking.
