Susan Sullivan Named New Custer Postmaster

Manages USPS Services for Custer, Washington Community

Custer Postmaster, Susan Sullivan

Susan Sullivan is the new Custer, Washington Postmaster. She has been with the Postal Service for 12 years, most of which has been serving the Custer community.

Sullivan began her postal career in 2011 in Bellingham as a temporary employee. In 2014 she transitioned to the Custer Post Office as a part-time, flexible employee (PTF), where she says she likes her work and “made the decision to stay.” Additional duties saw her as an on the job trainer for retail clerks for six years.

“I really enjoy being a PTF in this small office. I get to interact daily with my customers, getting to know them and their families, really integrating this Post Office into our local community. Also working in Custer as a PTF I get to wear many hats, learning more about the workings of the Postal Service, from customer service, delivery questions and the best way to help each customer with their mailing needs.”

Sullivan has noticed many changes to the Postal Service in her time as an employee, especially the way mail and packages are processed. She says some of the larger scale adjustments don’t necessarily affect her smaller office, but she can still feel some of it.

Two years ago, the Postal Service implemented the “Delivering for America” 10-year plan to achieve financial sustainability and service excellence. Sullivan is doing her part by, “keeping the customers informed on delivery options, processing my mail as quickly and efficiently as possible, and delivering great customer service.”

Before joining the Postal Service, she was a full-time mom and worked some retail jobs. She chose a postal career for her and her family because it offered a well-paying job, benefits and stability. As she says, “Saw a job flyer on the door and here I am.”

Sullivan has three grown children, a son and two daughters. In her spare time, she loves to read and spend time with family and friends. In the summer months you can often find her in the garden and during the chillier winter months she enjoys doing puzzles.
