Manages USPS Delivery and Retail Services for the Community
Joanne Babauta has accomplished quite a lot in the nearly 10 years since she began her Postal Service career in San Diego, California. And she is eager to begin her new role as the Burley, Washington Postmaster.
Babauta joined the Postal Service in 2013 and has quickly risen through the ranks. She worked as a city carrier in San Diego, CA before moving to Washington where she worked as a clerk, and lead clerk, the business lead development specialist and finally to her current position as the Postmaster at the Burley office. In that time she also had other duties including safety captain, on the job instructor, and window [clerk] trainer.
The Burley community has had a Post Office location for nearly 75 years, and Babauta is excited to be a part of the community history, “Working the front lines at a station and meeting new customers, helping them choose the right product and services for their needs, ensuring that they receive the best customer service is most rewarding for me.”
As Postmaster, she oversees two employees, 778 Post Office boxes, and operates a full-service retail Post Office.
Being a postal employee means Babauta is part of the agency’s “Delivering for America” 10-year plan to achieve financial sustainability and service excellence. And she is fulfilling her role by not only supporting her customers and staff, but also “looking out for new revenue for the Postal Service by educating our customers and connecting local businesses with shipping and mailing services that meet their needs.”
“While the marketplace and nation are constantly changing it’s important that the USPS keep up and adapt to serve the American public. With the roll out of Washington’s first sorting and delivery center (S&DC) in Pasco we’re off to a steady progress to stabilize the US Postal Service.”
Babauta chose a postal career because the Postal Service is one of the most trusted agencies in the country. Working for the Postal Service also runs in the family. Her sister-in-law works as the Postmaster in Vaughn, WA.
Babauta is married with four children and a dog. She credits her family’s love and support as an influence for the person she has become. Her heritage is also very important, “Having heritage from Guam, my family and I are deeply involved in our Guamanian Culture by being a member of Guma Imahe and sharing the love of our culture through dance which also partners with the Asia Pacific Cultural center, APCC in Tacoma, Washington.”
Postmaster Babauta looks forward to serving her community and has a message for her customers, “Thank you for allowing me to serve you!!”
