If an international trip is in your future, a valid passport is a necessity in addition to ticket and hotel reservations. But what to do if you need help submitting your passport application or need a passport photo?

The Postal Service can help. Just add the Medical Lake Post Office passport fair, being held on Saturday, April 19 8 a.m. – 1 p.m., to your pre-trip, to do list. The event will be held at:

Appointments are strongly suggested, and customers can use the online retail customer appointment scheduler (RCAS) tool to make an appointment. There is a six person limit for families and customers are not able to make appointments for non-family members.

Walk-ins are welcome and will be seen on a first come, first served basis, so make sure to arrive early. However, all scheduled appointments will be honored before walk-in customers.

To help make the process as smooth as possible, applicants are asked to fill out application forms ahead of time. Forms and fee information can be found on the Postal Service website or on the U.S. Department of State website.

Applying for a passport requires a valid photo ID (including a photocopy), proof of citizenship, and a completed form DS-11 (Application for a U.S. passport).

Valid photo ID can include any of the following:

• Recently issued Certificate of Naturalization or Citizenship with easily recognizable photo
• Current, Valid driver’s license
• Government employee ID
• Military ID

A photocopy of the valid photo ID — front and back — must be submitted with the passport application. Many Post Office locations can provide photocopy service, or take passport photos, for an additional fee.

Proof of citizenship can include:

• Previous fully valid U.S. passport
• Certified U.S. birth certificate – PLUS ONE copy
• Consular report of birth abroad or certification of birth – PLUS ONE copy
• Certificate of naturalization or citizenship – PLUS ONE copy
