Final Decision Regarding Milwaukee, WI, AMF Post Office

MILWAUKEE, WI— In accordance with 39 C.F.R. § 241.4, this is the United States Postal Service’s final decision with respect to the Postal Service’s proposal to relocate retail services from the Milwaukee AMF Post Office located at 5500 S Howell Ave., Milwaukee, WI 53207 to 552 W. Layton Ave., Milwaukee, WI 53207-9998.

A postcard was sent on January 24, 2024, asking for community input. For the reasons set forth below, the Postal Service has decided to proceed with the relocation.

As background, the Postal Service must relocate because the redevelopment of Mitchell International Airport will cause a loss of lease. The Postal Service anticipates providing the same services at the new location as are currently provided to our customers at the existing location. Additionally, the Postal Service plans to continue services at the current Post Office until the replacement facility is open and operating as a Post Office.

While the Postal Service is sensitive to the impact of this decision on its customers and the Milwaukee community, the Postal Service properly considered community input and this decision is consistent with Postal Service objectives. Postal Service operations are not supported by tax dollars. To be self-sustaining, the Postal Service must make decisions that ensure it provides adequate and affordable postal services in a manner that is as efficient and economical as possible.
