MANITOWOC, WI – As part of the United States Postal Service's "For the Long Haul" initiative, we are thrilled to celebrate Allen Bergseth, a dedicated Letter Carrier who has 50 years of combined federal government service and has faithfully served the Manitowoc community for 40 years at the same Post Office. Allen’s commitment and exceptional service have made him a beloved figure in the community.

"For the Long Haul" is an initiative designed to honor the remarkable dedication of long-serving USPS employees like Allen, who have become integral parts of their communities through their unwavering commitment and service excellence.

Allen Bergseth joined the US Navy in 1974 and served on a nuclear-powered submarine as a nuclear reactor technician. Allen began his career with USPS in 1984, quickly establishing himself as a reliable and friendly presence at the Manitowoc Post Office. Over the years, Allen has become a familiar face to countless customers, known for his warm smile, helpful attitude, and outstanding service. His deep knowledge of postal operations and his genuine care for the community have made him an indispensable part of the Manitowoc Post Office.

Allen remarked, “I’ve always dreamed of being a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service. I look at every day to come to work as a joy. You make it what it is, and when you have wonderful management to work for, it just makes it that much more fun to come in every day to serve the community of Manitowoc.” Allen’s wife Sally attended the presentation with pride and was acknowledged for her support of Allen’s postal career. Allen added lightheartedly, “We sat down last night with a calculator and figured out Sally made me over 10,000 lunches for work and God knows how many of my uniforms she ironed.”

"Al is of outstanding character and work ethic," said Chris Skog, Postmaster, Manitowoc WI. "No matter how hectic the day, Al always has a joke to tell and a smile on his face. I am not sure how many Postmasters Al has been through in his 40-year Postal Service career, but it is an honor to be his last and to be able to give him this award."

The United States Postal Service has been an essential part of American life since its inception. Committed to providing reliable, affordable mail service to every address in the country, USPS plays a crucial role in maintaining communication and commerce across the nation.
