POINT PLEASANT, WV — Acting Postmaster Mark Georgi and employees at the Point Pleasant Post Office have been named winners of the 2022 Kentucky-West Virginia Postal District Safety Contest. The contest had a March Madness theme and included a basketball tournament-type 64 bracket field of contenders. The Point Pleasant employees cinched a win by creating a safety video featuring all aspects of working safely.
During a celebration at the office employees received the Championship trophy, certificates for each team member and enjoyed a Breakfast of Champions. Manager of Post Office Operations Tom Buzzo, who oversees post offices in the area, received a basketball signed by the Point Pleasant team.
Regular Postmaster George Smith returned to the office to congratulate employees during the event. Along with Buzzo and Smith, District Safety Manager Alan Lewis made a special trip to honor the winning team in Point Pleasant. Joining the festivities to offer their congratulations via Zoom were Central Area Vice President Eric Henry and Kentucky-West Virginia District Manager Randy Stines.
Georgi, who has served the Point Pleasant community as a letter carrier, was proud of his team and their focus on safety. “We want to protect employees and customers every day. Having a safe working environment is an important part of our jobs”.
The Postal Service generally receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products, and services to fund its operations.
