Background:

The Weirton Post Office to honor Sales, Service, and Distribution Associate Sandra “Sandy” Gajtka. Coworkers and postal officials will be in attendance to recognize her 50 years of dedicated service, including USPS Central Area Vice President Eric Henry; Kentucky-West Virginia District Manager Randy Stines; and Acting Manager, Postal Operations Beth Jungels.

“I worked my entire career at the Weirton Post Office. I met my husband here. I have been very active with USPS. I was the American Postal Workers Union steward from 1974 – 2000 and was president from 2000-2013. My daughter once told me that she couldn’t remember a vacation that wasn’t at a union convention or seminar. I would like to thank the Postal Service and the APWU. I have been very blessed,” said Gajtka.

Postmaster Pete Melnyk sings Gajtka’s praises and her amazing work ethic, calling her “The Captain of the Weirton Team!”
