Pictorial Postmarks Announcement

As a community service, the Postal Service™ offers pictorial postmarks to commemorate local events celebrated in communities throughout the nation. A list of events for which pictorial postmarks are authorized appears on the following pages. The sponsor of the pictorial postmark appears in italics under the date. Also provided are illustrations of these postmarks.

People attending these local events may get the postmark in person at the temporary Post Office™ station established there. Those who cannot attend the event but who wish to get the postmark may submit a mail order request. Pictorial postmarks are available only for the dates indicated, and requests must be postmarked no later than 30 days after the requested pictorial postmark date.

All requests must include a stamped envelope or postcard bearing at least the minimum First-Class Mail^® postage. Items submitted for postmark may not include postage issued after the date of the requested postmark. Such items will be returned unserviced.

Customers who want a postmark must affix stamps to any envelope or postcard of their choice, address the envelope or postcard to themselves or others, insert a card of postcard thickness in envelopes for sturdiness, and tuck in the flap. Place the envelope or postcard in a larger envelope and address it to: Pictorial Postmarks, followed by the Name of the Station, Address, City, State, ZIP+4^® Code, as listed next to the postmark.

Customers can also send stamped envelopes and postcards without addresses for postmark, as long as they supply a larger envelope with adequate postage and their return address. After applying the pictorial postmark, the Postal Service returns the items (with or without addresses) under addressed protective cover.

Currency Mail-Back Policy

Typically, currency, or items bearing currency, with postage at the applicable First-Class Mail rate affixed or adjacent thereto may be canceled when presented in person for hand-back service.

However, such items cannot be submitted and returned through the mail. The Postal Service does not accept responsibility for currency in its possession in conjunction with philatelic services.

The Declaration of Independence stamp will be issued July 4, 2026. Since this is a holiday, and post offices are closed the Postal Service will make a one-time exception to the Currency policy in the Postal Operation Manual 231.63 Special Materials on which Postmarks May Be Requested. Per the one-time exception The Postal Service will accept Currency or items bearing currency to be mailed to Stamp Fulfillment Service to receive the July 4, 2026, First Day of Issue Postmark.

Customers must affix an applicable First-Class rate stamp to the currency or items bearing currency before mailing items to the above address and include an additional self-addressed return envelope, or box, large enough to accommodate their canceled items, with sufficient postage affixed for the return of their postmarked items. Recommendation: Provide your return packaging using Priority Mail^® and ensure USPS Tracking^®, Signature Confirmation™ and Insurance. The Postal Service does not accept responsibility for currency in its possession in conjunction with philatelic services.

Special Instructions to Request 1776 Declaration of Independence Pictorial Postmarks

Post Offices will be closed on July 4, 2026. To simplify the collector experience and ensure consistent processing, customers seeking a 250th Anniversary pictorial postmark should mail their philatelic items to:

Customers may indicate which of the 61 historic postmarks they would like applied to their item(s). USPS^® will process the requested cancellations and return the item(s) to the customer. The 1776 Declaration of Independence pictorial postmark will only be available with the date of July 4, 2026, and requests must be postmarked no later than 30 days after July 4, 2026.
