As technologies and business practices evolve in the coming years, the Postal Service is committed to adapting to a dynamic marketplace and continuing to provide a secure, reliable and affordable channel for business communication and delivery to every American enterprise.
While the mail will always play a vital role in the U.S. economy, we know that businesses and the American people are using mail differently and going increasingly online, and will use the mail less. To best adapt to this decline, the Postal Service intends to implement a five-day delivery schedule for mail, while maintaining a six-day delivery schedule for packages, since that is an area of continuing growth. The implementation of this five-day delivery schedule for mail is contingent on Congress not enacting legislation to prevent this change in service. We will implement the change while also maintaining and enhancing the appeal of commercial mailing activity.
For detailed information about the implications of this plan for your business, the Postal Service has created a planning guide for businesses, as well as frequently asked questions.
If Congress does not enact legislation barring it from doing so, the Postal Service plans to implement five-day mail delivery during the week of August 5, 2013. The Postal Service is committed to educating the marketplace about the new delivery schedule and working with all of its business customers to assist with planning and ensure smooth implementation.
