Mackinac Island Winter Mail Delivery

Winter weather mail delivery reminders

GRAND RAPIDS MI — Winter weather poses problems of its own but when it comes to mail delivery on Mackinac Island, during the winter there are additional problems.

Molly Sommers, Postmaster Mackinac Island wants to remind residents of the times when mail delivery cannot be accomplished or delayed due to weather conditions.

Because the mail comes to the island by way of freight ferry and plane from St. Ignace,  high wind conditions and low visibility can play into the whether or not there will not be incoming or outgoing mail delivery for island residents during  the months of January to April.
