What:

On December 21, 2020, legislation to designate the Post Office building located at 108 West Maple Street in Holly, Michigan, as the “Holly Veterans Memorial Post Office” was signed into law by President Trump. This legislation was introduced in the United States House of Representatives by Representative Elissa Slotkin.

Background:

“As home to the Great Lakes National Cemetery – one of the largest federal veterans cemeteries in the nation – and with such a large community of service members, it’s only fitting that Holly’s Post Office be renamed to honor the service and sacrifice of our men and women in uniform. I’m eager to join my neighbors in Holly as well as local leaders and service members on Veterans Day to mark this special occasion,” said Representative Elissa Slotkin.

“The Postal Service has been recognized as one of the nation’s top employers of veterans with nearly 73,000 current or former service members in its workforce. We are especially honored the Holly Post Office will be dedicated to all veterans. This post office will be a reminder of the sacrifices veterans made in defense of America and to protect the freedoms that we enjoy every day,” said USPS District Manager Richard Moreton.

The Postal Service receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations.
