Safety Concerns Force New Prague MN Post Office to Temporarily Relocate

NEW PRAGUE, MN — Out of an abundance of caution, operations at the New Prague Post Office located at 124 Main Street East will be temporarily suspended due to safety concerns with the building.

Beginning March 23, 2019, all operations at the office will be temporarily located to the Belle Plain Post Office located at 233 N. Meridian Street in Belle Plain, Minnesota.

Customers may retrieve their PO Box mail and notice left items from the Belle Plain Post Office with photo ID.

The retail hours for Belle Plain are Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

“The safety of our employees and customers is paramount,” said New Prague Postmaster Jorg Lewis. “So we have temporarily suspended operations at this location. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause our customers.”

Mail and packages that were in the facility at the time of the closure are not retrievable until an environmental specialist is able to evaluate the building and deem safe for employees to enter.  We are working diligently to get this process expedited.

New Prague is a leased facility and we will be working with the building owner to mitigate the concerns swiftly.

Customers may also order Stamps by Mail, Stamps by Phone, 1-800-STAMP-24, or online at usps.com, where customers can also ship packages, request a Free Package Pickup – all from the comfort of home.

The Postal Service receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations.
