STAR, NC — The Star Post Office once again is spreading holiday cheer by continuing its annual tradition of offering a special holiday pictorial postmark.
This will be the 36th-consecutive year for the postmark in Star. Cancellation of cards and letters will begin on Dec.1 and will be available all month.
“Customers and employees get excited each year for the new holiday postmark,” said Postmaster Angela Johnson, who has been involved in the event for 16 years. “Visitors come from near and far to get their holiday mail postmarked.”
Approximately 25,000 cards and letters were cancelled by hand last year.
The tradition, spanning more than three decades, invites members of the public to design the holiday postmark. Customers view entries and vote for their preferred design. This year’s postmark was designed by local resident Donna Adams.
The tradition started in 1987 when then Officer in Charge Kay Brakefield decided to develop a holiday pictorial cancellation after receiving numerous requests from customers.
“The Star holiday postmark is another reason why this is the most wonderful time of the year,” said Johnson.
The cancellation may also be obtained by mail order by:
