The Postal Service™ asks employees and contractors to be vigilant regarding insider threats. An insider is any person who has or had access to or knowledge of an organization’s resources, which include personnel, facilities, information, equipment, network, and systems.
Insider risks can be the misuse of information technology, unauthorized disclosures of information, or other activities that are detrimental to the individual and the organization.
Some examples of insider threats include:
n Unauthorized use of portable electronic devices like USB thumb drives.
n Disclosing restricted postal information on the internet or public domain.
n Unauthorized escalation of privileged access.
n Unlawful retention of postal property or information.
n Deliberate disregard for information security and cyber policies.
These types of threats could jeopardize the organization and put our stakeholder’s reputation at risk. It is important that employees and contractors do their part and report these types of threats.
If you observe or witness insider threat activity, please file a report by emailing the Insider Risk Program at insider_risk@usps.gov. If you notice individual(s) posing an imminent danger to Postal Service assets or personnel, please call USPIS directly at 877-876-2455 (option 2).
