Alaska’s Top Mail Executive Retires

Ron Haberman Oversaw Mail Operations in Alaska for Two Decades

ANCHORAGE — During Postmaster General Louis DeJoy’s recent visit to Alaska to tour postal facilities and meet with employees, he took time out to mark the final days of the 38-year career of USPS Alaska District Manager Ron Haberman. The last 20 of these years were spent as a lead executive in charge of Alaska’s mail operations.

“I have been fortunate in my career in so many ways,” said Haberman. “I have been part of a great team here in Alaska.”

USPS Alaska District Manager Ron Haberman with Postmaster General Louis DeJoyHaberman began his career as letter carrier in 1985 in Austin, TX.  In 1995, Haberman and his wife relocated to Alaska, where he carried mail. Over the years, he took on management roles of increasing responsibility, eventually heading the Mail Processing operations in 2003. In 2011, he was promoted to Alaska District Manager, overseeing all retail and delivery functions for the state.

In his role, he was responsible for the Alaska District with 665,000 square miles and one of the most complicated transportation networks in the postal service.

Throughout his executive career, Haberman mentored numerous employees that were appointed to executive positions. He has also worked with numerous stakeholders in Alaska to modernize service standards and improve service to the Alaskan customers so dependent on the Postal Service, while reducing or avoiding additional costs.

“The team will undoubtably keep moving forward and attain even more for the customers, employees and the Postal Service,” Haberman said. “I look forward to watching the team and the Postal Service fully implement the Delivering for America plan.”

During his visit, Postmaster General DeJoy also visited bypass mail operations in Bethel and Anchorage, as well as the Alaska Processing and Distribution Center. He visited the Bethel Post Office as well as the Post Office that serves the Akiak Native Community.

He later gathered postal leaders from around the state to share progress about the Delivering for America Plan. DeJoy is fresh off a tour in Georgia and an interview with Time magazine.
