The Joshua tree Priority Mail stamp depicts a common scene throughout much of the Mojave and Sonoran Deserts. Using bold colors of the sun’s reflection off of the trees, rocks and other shrubby vegetation, artist Don Cosgrove illuminates the desert scene in warm, golden hues.
Joshua Tree National Park is a vast protected area in southern California. It’s characterized by rugged rock formations and start desert landscapes. Named for the region’s twisted, bristled Joshua trees, the park straddles the cactus-dotted Colorado Desert and the Mojave Desert, which is higher and cooler.
The Postal Service receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations.
