On January 22, 2023, the United States Postal Service® (USPS®) eliminated 41 legacy service type codes (STCs) that did not follow USPS current Intelligent Mail® package barcode (IMpb® ) format.
Additionally, on July 9, 2023, as part of the organization’s ongoing simplification efforts, service type code/extra service code combinations that were identified as low use, low demand, or with overlapping services were also eliminated. This change reduces complexity and improves visibility, tracking, and the customer experience.
Customers will still have many combinations to serve their needs. For a list of available and retired STCs, see Publication 199, Intelligent Mail Package Barcode (IMpb) Implementation Guide, Appendix I, “Intelligent Mail Package Barcode Service Type Codes” at postalpro.usps.com/pub199.
