IMM Revision: Individual Country Listing for Indonesia

Effective July 27, 2023, the Postal Service™ is revising the Individual Country Listing for Indonesia in Mailing Standards of the United States Postal Service, International Mail Manual (IMM®) to add observations regarding the following:

n Customs regulations regarding the importation of cellular phones.

n An import duty for certain items of apparel and their accessories.

n The inclusion of the addressee’s mobile phone number and email address, if possible, for items mailed to Indonesia.

These revisions are based on formal requests that Pos Indonesia (the designated postal operator of Indonesia) made through the Universal Postal Union via International Bureau Circular 209, dated December 20, 2021, and International Bureau Circular 5, dated January 17, 2022.

Observations

[Add new entries to read as follows:]

6. A cellular phone mailed to Indonesia must include the phone’s International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) number on the invoice attached to the item. If the sender fails to provide the IMEI number, the cellular phone cannot be activated in Indonesia.

7. Certain items of apparel and their accessories are subject to an import duty in respect of security measures in addition to customs duty.

8. To facilitate customs clearance and delivery of items, Pos Indonesia (the designated postal operator of Indonesia) requests that the mailer provide the addressee’s mobile telephone number and email address, if possible, on the address label of Registered Mail letters and on the customs declaration form for each item sent with any of the following services: First-Class Package International Service, International Priority Airmail packages (small packets), International Surface Air Lift packages (small packets), Priority Mail International, and Priority Mail Express International.
