IMM Revision: Individual Country Listing for Iran

Effective July 27, 2023, the Postal Service™ is revising the Individual Country Listing for Iran in Mailing Standards of the United States Postal Service, International Mail Manual (IMM®) to note additional information for certain items mailed to Iran.

These revisions are based on formal requests that Iran National Post Company (the designated postal operator of Iran) made through the Universal Postal Union International Bureau Circular 177, dated November 7, 2022, and International Bureau Circular 39, dated March 13, 2023.

[Add a new entry to read as follows:]

11. According to Iran’s customs authority, importation of mobile phones mailed to Iran is limited to one mobile phone per individual per calendar year. For items that contain a mobile phone, Iran National Post Company (the designated postal operator of Iran) requests that the mailer include the addressee’s identity number in the “importer’s reference” field on the customs form or, if the customs declaration form does not have an “importer’s reference” field, on the address side of the item. Items containing a mobile phone that do not meet these standards are subject to seizure or return.
