San Francisco Post Office targets Bay View area for future employees

Free event explains hiring process to open vacancies

SAN FRANCISCO —The San Francisco postal district is looking to fill permanent career positions as well as hiring for the holiday season. The District is looking to wrap up its permanent and holiday hiring needs with applicants from local neighborhoods.

The hiring event is on Thursday, October 3, from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., at the San Francisco Processing Facility located at 1300 Evans Ave., San Francisco, CA 94188.  San Francisco Postmaster Abraham Cooper will open the event with a talk on why the Post Office is a great place to work and a better place to do business.

“The Postal Service has a social contract with the American public by providing local communities with quality and dependable service,” said San Francisco Postmaster Abraham Cooper. “We do this with a dedicated workforce, and I am looking to recruit new members for our San Francisco team from our own backyard.”

Applicants will be guided through the entire online application process at on-site computer stations to submit for positions posted on www.usps.com/careers. Please allow one hour for this process.

Applicants must be 18 years of age, or 16 years of age with a high school diploma or GED. All applicants must be able to pass drug screening and a criminal background investigation. Some positions do require an exam. Any position that has a driving requirement will also require a valid driver license and clean DMV two-year driving history. A five-year U.S. residency requirement is required.

Applicants should bring a photo ID, valid driver’s license, Social Security Card or birth certificate; and males a Selective Service registration number. Veterans should bring their DD214 for veterans’ preference.

Holiday positions are non-career seasonal positions. Career position include federal benefits, such as being covered by the Federal Employee Retirement System (FERS) where they can contribute to a Thrift Savings Plan (TSP) – similar to a 401(k) plan, and get a 5 percent matching contribution by the USPS. Employees immediately have the option to enroll into the Federal Employees Health Benefits (FEHB) as well as automatic coverage in the Federal employees Group Life Insurance (FEGLI).
