On Wednesday, June 15, in his 23rd year as a postal employee, James Sayles will be sworn in as Exeter Postmaster.

Sayles began his postal career in 1999 as a clerk in the Remote Encoding Center in Selma, CA. He has worked in Hanford as a letter carrier and was promoted to Supervisor of Customer Service Hanford, in 2018.

“Being a Postmaster means being a public servant, not just to the public but also to my employees. I hope to make the Exeter Post Office the place where people come to do business,” Sayles said. “The Postal Service is continually innovating to provide first-class service which can be seen in the Postmaster General’s Delivering for America 10-Year Plan.”

Sayles enjoys family, gardening, shooting sports and fishing. He has three daughters; Adeleigh Sayles, Scarlett Sayles, Elizabeth Sayles and one Son, Wynn Sayles. He is husband to Katie Sayles. James is a pianist at the Gateway Church of Visalia and participates as a parent volunteer at the Grangeville 4-H club.

As Exeter Postmaster, Sayles oversees more than 15,000 pieces of mail delivered daily while also servicing more than 750 Post Office Box deliveries. He manages 17 employees, eight delivery routes servicing a population of more than 11,000.

The Postal Service generally receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products, and services to fund its operations.
