Postal Service presents Postmaster General Hero Award

Annville Rural Carrier Danny Spurlock as a Postmaster General Hero

ANNVILLE, KY – The Postal Service has honored Annville Rural Carrier Danny Spurlock as a Postmaster General Hero for his actions aiding a man and woman injured in an ATV accident.

While delivering mail on his rural route in September, Spurlock spotted an overturned ATV down an embankment. He stopped to find a man and woman who were badly injured. The man had a head and neck wound and the woman appeared to have a fracture in her neck or clavicle. Spurlock called 911 and waited with the wounded couple until help arrived.

When asked about his efforts to aid the couple, Spurlock simply said, “I’m just glad I was there to help.”

The Postmaster General Hero Award is given to those who perform a heroic act above and beyond the call of duty while on the job. Recipients receive a signed letter from Postmaster General Megan J. Brennan.

The Kentuckiana District serves ZIP Codes 400-409, 411-427 in Kentucky and 471, 476-477 in southern Indiana.

The Postal Service receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations.
