Owenton Postal Employee Discovers Need - OWENTON

Child may receive guide dog

OWENTON, KENTUCKY – What started out as a holiday task at the post office during this time of year became a personal cause for Owenton Rural Carrier Associate Ripley York.

York offered to send a response from “Santa” to some of the letters addressed to the jolly gentleman received in the Owenton Post Office. She was surprised to see one boy had asked for a guide dog as he had a serious vision problem. Unfamiliar with how to go about finding a guide dog, York posed the question on a popular social media platform. The responses poured in, along with suggestions for her to start a fundraising account.

After contacting the boy’s mother, York volunteered her personal time to see if the wish could be granted. The generosity of those donating online will go a long way toward making this effort a reality. Although not an official Postal Service program, coworkers at the Owenton Post Office are proud of York’s desire to make this child’s wish come true.
