Postal Service Temporarily Suspends Service in Hyde County

Additional impacts to operations expected in areas in the path of the storm

HYDE COUNTY, NC – Due to the mandatory evacuation orders from Hurricane Dorian, the Postal Service has announced the temporary suspension of mail delivery and retail operations in Hyde County, NC.

Postal Service employees in impacted areas are working to secure the mail, postal facilities and equipment in advance of the arrival of Hurricane Dorian.

The following Post Offices will close until further notice:

  • Engelhard, 34668 US Hwy 264, 27824

PO Box Only Offices

  • Fairfield, 7089 NC Hwy 94, 27826
  • Scranton, 500 Old US Hwy 264, 27875
  • Swanquarter, 1271 Main St, 27885

Postal Service employees are being advised to check for changes to their scheduled work reporting status by contacting the USPS National Emergency Notification Hotline at 1-888-363-7462 to determine if any special instructions have been issued.

Customers are encouraged to sign up for Informed Delivery at USPS.com. The free notification feature provides images of letter-sized mail destined for home delivery via a daily email or through an online dashboard. To sign up or find more information, go to www.InformedDelivery.com.
