Postal collection boxes adjacent to State Capital to be temporarily removed

Postal Service implements precautionary security measure

Harrisburg, PA — The Central PA District of the United States Postal Service, working in conjunction with the Postal Inspection Service, will implement a temporary security measure next Tuesday to increase public safety. Collection boxes adjacent to the Capital building will be taken out of service Tuesday January 19th and returned to service on Thursday, January 21st.  

The Harrisburg, PA 17101 mailboxes being temporarily removed are located at:

  • 101 State St
  • 100 North St
  • 201 State St
  • 700 N 3rd St
  • 500 N 3rd St
  • 450 N 3rd St
  • 212 Locust St
  • 500 N 3rd St
  • 700 N 3rd St
  • 601 N 2nd St

The temporary removal of these collection boxes is a precautionary measure to protect postal property, employees, and the public.

The Postal Service receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations.
