5 Automated Verification

5-1 Program Overview

All Full-Service mailings entered at a Business Mail Entry Unit (BMEU) are verified using automated sampling and verification processes. Automated Verification differs from Seamless Acceptance in that undocumented is not currently an assessable metric and auto-finalization does not occur. All assessable metrics including Full-Service, Move Update, eInduction, and Seamless Acceptance (except undocumented) are in place. Automated Verification leverages electronic documentation and the Intelligent Mail barcodes on containers, handling units, and mailpieces that Full-Service provides. Mailpiece scans collected from Mail Processing Equipment (MPE) and samples from hand-held scanning devices are reconciled to the mailer eDoc to confirm proper mail preparation for the discounts claimed and postage paid. Mail is verified through the comparison of eDoc to MPE scans (called census verification) and the comparison of eDoc to scans from sampling (called sampling verification). The results of these verifications are aggregated over a 1-month period, measured against established error thresholds, and displayed in the Mailer Scorecard under the Seamless/Automated Verification Tab. When the mailer is participating in Full-Service, the Seamless/Automated Verification tab of the Scorecard is accessible to Mail Preparers and Mail Owners.
